Adelaide, from South Africa, kindly invited me to join her & two of her friends for an outing to the Blue Souk in Sharjah. I soon realised that the cultural expedition that I was expecting was to be a shopping trip. On arrival at the Souk the girls soon set to with the haggling in the carpet shop. These South africans take no prisoners when it comes to bargaining. I almost felt soorry for the shop keeper as Adelaide left the shop with a silk carpet for the loss of a few Dirham.The Souk is a beautiful building, spoilt only by the addition of the escalators. Apart from carpets, a main focus is gold and the Msanchester United outlet, of course!
